DreamPlug Low Power CPU


In the midst of devices getting smaller and smaller, some people may not realize that the same thing may be happening to computer CPU’s. Not only are there such devices that seem to get smaller and smaller, they also seem to become more energy efficient in the process. New CPU’s such as the DreamPlug may appeal to those who wish to save power as well as some space.
The new DreamPlug is a small computer that can do a lot of things. Despite its size, it features spec that allow it to be a platform not only for computing but also for graphics and multimedia use as well. It features a Marvell Sheeva Core 1.2GHz processor with a 512MB DDR2 RAM running at 800 MHz and a 1GB on board MicroSD Flash memory for kernel and root file system.
The DreamPlug also features a handful of connectivity options with 2 USB 2.0 ports, 2 Gigabit Ethernet, 1 eSATA 2.0 and 1 SD slot. It is also WiFi 802.11b/g ready and also comes with Bluetooth connectivity. What makes it even more interesting is that the unit only consumes under 5 watts of power when used. It has been designed for use 24/7, making it quite an interesting device indeed. The DreamPlug computer is available at Globalscale Technologies for US$149.
